Something I did for my car this summer

This post is a lot of blab, but I hope sharing what I have experienced and did with my car this summer will be of benefit to some of you.

Last year (2014) I drove my car up until about mid November; it was running great when I parked it in the garage. The weather turned bad, life took over and the car remained parked without being driven or even started until mid February. We had a pretty day so the wife and I took the car out for a 30 mile run and to fill the tank up with some fresh…

Carburator Manifold Issue

Some of my spark plugs are burning rich and some are perfect. The 2nd and 4th in on driver side and the 5th and 8th in on the passenger side are the ones burning very rich. I changed the wires to see if I had bad wires and the same issue. I have a 1406 elderblock carburetor. I read Jason's post on the carburator and  pulled the carb and noticed the holes in the "gutter" were not plugged. I there were no other holes on the top of the manifold. Any one have any idea's and should the gutter…

Happy to be here

Just brought to California the Lime green 1964 Cadillac Coupe DeVille my father purchased in '64. He drove it 2 years and sold it to my grandfather, who drove it about 15 years. It then sat in his garage for 10 years, and then sat covered outside my uncles house for another 10 years. In 1992 my uncle gave it to my brother who shipped it to his home in Scottsdale AZ, where it sat in his garage for another 14 years. He intended to restore it, but never got around to it. His widow just gave it…

Schizophrenic headlights

Recently my headlights have been flickering from high beam to low beam in rapid succession, but only periodically.  Also sometimes when I try to turn on brights they won't come on, and then suddenly they may come on and then flick back off, or may stay on.  Autronic Eye is turned off but need some thoughts on what may be causing this.  Bad floor switch?  Short in system?  Doesnt seem to act up until I try to turn on brights, then it is anyone guess what will happen.

Carburation issue

I just rebuilt my 1964 429 engine and I have a Elderbrock 1406 carburetor on it. I reviewed the blogs and I have an issue with it burning rich at idle. I talk with Elderbrock and they said advance the timing to 10 degree. My mechanic was hesitant but we did it. I still have a rich fuel burning also with black carbon out the exhaust. We are getting a little condensate out the back also. Any help or idea?

Thanks

Dominic

To start i want to say nothing wrong with customs. But, along with Tony and Ginny 429 many words  of wisdom it is enough to maintain in original condition. Cadillac built the car to run like Chuck Berrys Maybelline, my orig. carb . gets me 13 mpg. on the road ,70-75 mph.and if i feel the need to pass rice Irocket,no problem! I am glad others kept my car orig for me to enjoy now! the next generations will enjoy. I had a carter restored at Benchwick carbs. inc. ohio 330-782-3767, not only did…

Loud air moving sound within carb with cleaner removed

Posted by Dave Fehrle on March 23, 2024 at 3:23pm 8 Comments

While checking my Carter carb with engine running, I took the air cleaner off and there was a very loud hissing sound of air. I placed a piece of paper over the carb and it didn’t move up or down, is this normal?

Vintage Air AC

Posted by Chase on March 21, 2024 at 5:55am 0 Comments

Hey everyone, has anybody done a Vintage Air AC/Heat setup in their car? I want to bypass the old vacuum setup and go with a Vintage Air Gen 2 model. Before I get started, does anyone have any experience with this? (Which model to go with, do’s and dont’s, etc.) It looks pretty involved. Any and all info/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

accumulator dryer

Posted by CHRIS CARLSON on December 6, 2023 at 10:54am 0 Comments

Who rebuilds original AC  accumulator dryers for 1964 Cadillac? I have been on Classic auto air in Tampa FL wait list for over a year ,  There is one on Old air products web site that looks very similar to the original # 21-4214A but states it fits 1962 Gm cars, The one recommended for a 1964 Cadillac is half the length 21-4215A    What  is everyone using ? I would prefer to be as original as possible. Thanks
